How can you not love a book that includes both a reality TV dance competition and the summoning of a snake god? The InCryptid series continues, returning to Verity Price as the lead character, as she assumes her false identity as Valerie, competitive ballroom dancer, and gets drawn into the hunt for a killer stalking the dance contestants. It's just as much fun as expected, with danger, drama, and dragons around every corner. This series is crazy and super entertaining, and I can't wait to start #6.

Verity and Dominic are back! I confess to a mixture of excitement (I love these two) and disappointment (I was really hoping to hear more about Antimony). A brief and hilarious introduction and we are plunged into Verity's world of dance, and I was happy to hear from her alter-ego Valerie.
Things quickly go south in an epic way and Verity is plunged into an eerily familiar problem. We meet some new types of cryptids and hear far too much about the noble profession of dancers. Honestly if I saw the phrase "We are dancers" one more time I was going to be ill.
Verity handles this with her amazing wit and snappy one liners. The aeslinn mice are hilarious, as usual (by the way the God of Tough Decisions in Dark Places is the best fictional god name ever).
And then it all falls apart at the very end. The culprits were obvious, with the exception of one who had a personality transplant just before the big event.
Recommended for: page turning summer reading, a good laugh, readers who like girls with guns
Not recommended for: the high-brow set, if you hate reality tv.

There is something magical about these books. Because if you ask me about my favorite series, it doesn't make the list. Seanan McGuire easily makes my favorite authors list, and the Toby books hold a pretty high place on the favorite series list, but I tend to forget these books.
Until a new one comes out, I start reading and I can't stop. Because they're really good. And this one might just be my favorite of this series, because a)Verity b)dance competition.

fifth book, third from verity's perspective, and best verity book yet; getting away from daves fish and strips/kittys freakshow was such a godsend i stg
I know some people didn't enjoy the dancing and reality tv parts, but they didn't detract from the book for me. I liked the reality tv format. And Seanan McGuire is an entertaining enough writer that some of the weaker points, like didn't detract too much from the book for me. I have to say that I'm a little bit worried about Alice's mind, at this point--she may look 25, but she absolutely is not, and I'm interested to see what happens to her next.
Can't wait for the next one! Assuming there is (will there be? Pretty please!).

another snake cult, really??Can't wait for the next one! Assuming there is (will there be? Pretty please!).

It looks like we may be headed for an all-out Price vs. Covenant war, and it won't be pretty.
Very good installment in a great series. Even though I like Alex a tiny bit more as a PoV character than Verity this was still very enjoyable. I liked the fact Verity finally let go of her dancer alter ego and I liked the challenge issued to the Covenant. It'll be interesting to see how it develops in the future novels.
Back to Verity's POV. She is back at her parents in the family business along with her husband when she gets a call to come back to Dance or Die a reality dance show on TV. Her husband and family tell her to go for it. Unfortunately, she discovers that the people getting cut from the show are really dying.
