Really engaging and the short chapters make it easy to bookmark but still continue the story at a good pace. A few unexpected happenings made it very enjoyable for the short read.

This book has an intriguing blurb, like One of Us Is Lying meets A Deadly Education. When I read the full blurb, I was fully seated. The plot is very interesting, but only until about 40%. After that, it becomes quite lackluster. I was waiting for some wild stakes or a surprise obstacle, but I was really disappointed that nothing significant happened. While I was impressed by some of the magic, their journey through the forest is bland, with no good teamwork between them. There are a lot of creatures and mysterious places, but they just exist; there isn't much development of those elements.

Then comes the last chapter, which made me mad at the main character. I already felt suspicious of her from the beginning, but I didn't expect her to become so selfish towards everyone. I tried to understand her reasons for why she did all that, but it is just so wrong of her to act like that, even towards her friends who always stayed by her side. Nobody could convince me that she wasn't wrong, and her grudge can't justify all of it.

Oh, don't forget to mention there is romance in it, but it feels too forced. Even though I feel like the author didn't want to make this part too obvious, for me, it's really poorly written, especially when the characters have no chemistry what-so-ever about love for each other.

Because of all that, I ended up not enjoying this book much. The way the story takes turns makes me drift away whenever I open a new chapter. I'm not sure if I want to read the second book, but I really like Theo and want to see more of his character development. I hope he can open his eyes well to see what's around him.

It is a story of revenge with a very well-thought-out plan that goes wrong.
Perfect for fans of Hunger Games, Maze Runner, and All of Us Villains.
I binged books 1 and 2.

The first volume is an introduction to the world, the families, their ranking the magic system, and the academy. The narrative focuses on six teens who are accidentally teleported far away from the capital into very dark and dangerous lands. One dies in the process. At the same time, they will be hunted by a creature that evolves when consuming their magic.

Survival, tension, and lots of action. Loved all characters and was always fearing for the next victim. Dreading it would be my favorite.

The main character has a strong agenda. She needs to find a way to get hired and enter the family who murdered her father. Falling in love with the murderer's son may not be the best path but is one she can't avoid.

Bought librofm audio copies and loved the narrator.
