After reading what felt like a book that took forever to read, "The Inheritance Games" was what I needed in order to get out of my reading slump. This book was plot and character-driven, got to the point when it needed to, and kept me on the edge of my seat whenever I was reading it. Around the last 20 chapters of the book, I got so addicted that I simply sat around for 3 hours reading all of them. I very much enjoyed this book and after not even being 2/3 done, I ordered the next 2 books in the series. The ending (which I will not spoil) left room for more of the story to be told in the second book and I absolutely loved it. In terms of characters, I will say Avery's personality can be a little annoying sometimes but her dynamic with the Hawthorne brothers was immaculate. Jennifer Lynn Barnes really knew how to bring her ideas to life in such a unique way. I have to say, my favourite Hawthorne brother is Jameson, but I may be a little bit biased as her relationship with him is highlighted throughout the story. Even the side characters were fully fleshed out like Thea who was made to be unlikeable, Rebecca who I know some people like but I personally found annoying, Oren who was written as if he were a real bodyguard, and more. I can't wait to get started with the second book now and see how it goes. If you're looking for an adventurous/mystery, puzzle-solving plot with twists and turns, this series was made for you.

P.S. Whoever said that this book was like "Knives Out" but in a novel was so true

This was so fun!! I was hooked from the first chapter and I’m already rushing for the sequel. It was cool to visualize the puzzles and imagine if I could work them out (I couldn’t). I also liked the characters and I’m so excited to read more about them!

I purchased this series as a FairyLoot exclusive, and I have been dying to see what all of the craze is about.
"The Inheritance Games" follows Avery Grambs, the seemingly luckiest girl in the world. Avery has had a difficult life, but she is determined to keep her head down, work hard, and make it out of her town to make something of herself. Her whole life gets uprooted when she discovers that she has become the heir to Tobias Hawthorne's entire massive fortune. But Avery has no idea who Tobias is or why he left her his fortune. With a whole slew of Hawthornes who feel slighted at being cut out of the will, Avery has made some enemies. Can she uncover why she was left the fortune?
This was a really fast-paced and fun read. I loved the lighthearted mystery and all of the riddles presented throughout the book. It felt like the reader could play along with Avery to try and uncover what is really going on at the Hawthorne estate.
I really enjoy Avery as a character. She is so smart and independent. She may not be a Hawthorne, but she really fits into this world. I also love that she stays down to earth. Alot of teenagers who get massive wealth may find themselves unable to responsibly handle all of this money and power, but Avery stays true to who she is an does not seem to let the money change her.
I am hooked, and I cannot wait to continue this story and figure out what is going on.

This book is old money, it’s rags to to riches, it’s a non frustrating love triangle, it’s will they/won’t they, it’s twists and tricks and puzzles, it’s a guessing game, it’s strategic, it’s un-put-down-able. It’s a need to read for any YA mystery lover.
