The Magic Word

Loved this book! I had my boyfriend read it out loud to me and it was so funny. One of Mac's best

Not on par with the author's other works. Something was off about the book design and what could have been a great plot fell flat and felt mean. Ages 5-7.

Made us laugh out loud. Thanks, Mac, for sharing this one live on your book club!

Great read aloud for elementary. The kids love it.

2.5?

Madcap and sure to be a readaloud hit, it's a fun take on a familiar schtick. Of course Paxton finds that having his every wish granted isn't much fun without his friends and family around to enjoy it with him, but young audiences will still enjoy the ride, punctuated by yells of "Alakazoomba!" and exuberantly illustrated in bright yellows and oranges. Lively and lots of fun.

I officially can never name any future children Paxton. Not a fan of this character at all.

It's a pretty hilarious story - with great illustrations. That said, I'm not sure the ending drives home the lesson the author was necessarily going for? I liked that Paxton genuinely felt bad and apologized, but a couple people soundly rejected said apology, and so it just kind of circled back around. I dunno.

(Still a hilarious idea for a book, though!)

Once again Barnett hasn't let me down.

Kids will LOVE this rambunctious take on the "magic word."
