This book had me hooked since I saw the blurb. I loved the idea of travelling through time by means of magical pills that could break the time-space continuum and bring you back thirty years into your past.
The constant twists in the story that came from either Elliott kept the book interesting and maintained the page-turner status it had in the first few chapters. Matt's humor and his love story with Tiffany in the beginning gave the book the comic relief that it needed to balance the emotion it gave its readers. If it hadn't been for the humor aspect of the book, I would have broken down into tears by the end of it.
I was so touched by Elliott's determination to initially only see Ilena one last time before he died to actually saving her and his daughter at the same time. He proved on this last few journeys that if he fought hard enough, he would be able to save everyone he loved and defy fate's grand design for the three of them. First, he changed the course of what should have been the accident that killed Ilena. Then he went back in time once more to save Ilena from dying via a suicide attempt because the younger Elliott broke up with her as per his double's request. And to top it all off, he thought ahead with his plan and looked for a way to save his daughter and ensure that she was born.
That was the kind of thing that proved a father's love for his daughter. Even if her mother wasn't the woman he lived and eventually died for, he loved her because she was his flesh and blood. And in the end, that's stronger than the love for his soul mate.
When Elliott died because of the cancer, it was so devastating because of everyone's reactions and because I thought he would never be able to patch things up with Matt and Ilena. The journal he gave them that he wrote on his last final days could be compared to a cold compress that would help with the pain, but it wouldn't make it disappear. He gave them the truth, but he didn't give them closure.
Then he surprised me again by adding one final twist in the story by saving one last pill for Matt and he brought Elliott back to life in 2007 by stopping the cancer that supposedly killed him in the universe they lived in. And the book had the happily ever after that it truly deserved.
I will be forever grateful that my high school library bought this book for students' consumption. I was the first person to ever borrow this, and I surely hope that I won't be the last. Books like these are the kinds that should be discovered by the present generation because it tells them to write their own destiny and that at the end of the day, we are not the ones who are subject to fate's mercy, but rather it's the other way around. If we believe in something strong enough, if we want something badly enough, then we would find a way to fight for it and we wouldn't stand around like street lamps and wait for what happens next. Because we are what happens next.
Now, to answer the question in the blurb (you Goodreaders don't have to read this part), if I could go back in time, I would probably change one decision I made as a high school sophomore (I'm a senior now) regarding answering someone who was courting me. I pushed him away because I arrogantly thought I was too good for him and he ended up with someone who everyone had said was half the person I am. When I found out about the ramifications of my actions, I realized that I had been in love with him the entire time and that I pushed him away because I thought it was what would benefit me most. My selfish actions made me lose the people who mattered to me without a way of getting them back. And that would be something I would tell my double not to do if ever I had the opportunity that was presented to Elliott in the book.

Perfecto.
