I have no idea how to describe the things this book made me feel, but let’s just say I needed a moment when I finished it.

Louis was a poor meow meow before the term was ever invented and I think that's beautiful.

I don't know how Anne Rice made such a pathetic, wet noodle of  man deliver some of theee most floor shaterring observations ever known to man, but she fucking did it!!! Every time Louis starts to talk about evil I sit my ass down and listen to him.

But also Louis is so so lame. The first man to ever be baby trapped by another man, and he just keeps failing upwards. C'mon Louis! Eat some people! Fuck the blonde bitch! Adopt some more demonic children! I'm sure it'll all work out in the end.

This book is a beautiful classic and everyone who's a fan of horror should read it because Louis' capture (and the entire Paris arc) in the end gave me anxiety. Also Anne Rice's vampires are super cool and evil when they aren't crying about how catholic they are. Were.

I had seen the movie as a child and kind of walked into Interview blindly. At first it was hard to follow in a grammatical sense, as it is being played out as an Interview(who would have guessed) but written in 3rd person. Was very long drawn at some points as to Louis' depression. The end however was quick almost unsuspecting. Its questionable weather it queer baiting but Lestat does seem to be the epitome of Pansexual. I dont remember much of claudia from the movie except her tantrum amd death. Exploring her psychi through louis eyes was interesting but i would have like her POV. However as she becomes mentally an adult her relationship with louis becomes more uncomfortable. Another creator/influencer described the novrl queer toxic relationship which would best describe lestats treatment of louis.

I found the narrative went through plot points too quickly and focused too heavily at times on emotional reflection.

There's only so much casual pedophilia I can take. I tried to finish just to finish. I can briefly tolerate  that Louie is an unreliable narrator and begrudgingly read through it even though he doesn't seem to show any character growth in the hundreds of years since he was a bored, unthinking plantation owner who cared more about capitalism than the humanity of the people who worked his land. I just couldnt do it for nearly 300 pages.

Loved this a lot! I think the writing is absolutely beautiful, it reminds me of the picture of Dorian Gray at times. I will say that I didn’t enjoy the portions about slavery and the fact that Louis was a slave owner, however it’s an important topic that I’m glad was discussed as it’s important not to forget what certain parts of history were for certain groups of people.
I look forward to reading the sequels when I have the time!
