I had seen the movie as a child and kind of walked into Interview blindly. At first it was hard to follow in a grammatical sense, as it is being played out as an Interview(who would have guessed) but written in 3rd person. Was very long drawn at some points as to Louis' depression. The end however was quick almost unsuspecting. Its questionable weather it queer baiting but Lestat does seem to be the epitome of Pansexual. I dont remember much of claudia from the movie except her tantrum amd death. Exploring her psychi through louis eyes was interesting but i would have like her POV. However as she becomes mentally an adult her relationship with louis becomes more uncomfortable. Another creator/influencer described the novrl queer toxic relationship which would best describe lestats treatment of louis.

I found the narrative went through plot points too quickly and focused too heavily at times on emotional reflection.

There's only so much casual pedophilia I can take. I tried to finish just to finish. I can briefly tolerate  that Louie is an unreliable narrator and begrudgingly read through it even though he doesn't seem to show any character growth in the hundreds of years since he was a bored, unthinking plantation owner who cared more about capitalism than the humanity of the people who worked his land. I just couldnt do it for nearly 300 pages.

Loved this a lot! I think the writing is absolutely beautiful, it reminds me of the picture of Dorian Gray at times. I will say that I didn’t enjoy the portions about slavery and the fact that Louis was a slave owner, however it’s an important topic that I’m glad was discussed as it’s important not to forget what certain parts of history were for certain groups of people.
I look forward to reading the sequels when I have the time!

I went into this book wanting a high-fantasy vampire tale, which wasn't quite the right expectation. The focus was more philosophical than I originally expected, but not necessarily in a bad way. If you are into discussion of life and the human condition, this is a great vampire read for you.
I think due to my mismatched expectations, I found some of the characters less "lovable", but I was no less interested in the characters. They ended up being slightly predictable towards the end, but the plot of the story kept things moving forward anyways.
As far as diversity, there is 1 female main character (who is literally a child, classic) and few, if any, non-white characters. There is at least one queer relationship, and the fact that it is queer does not have an effect on whether that relationship is good, bad, etc. which I appreciated. However, the child female character has a very complicated and vaguely problematic relationship with the main character, which is where all the reviews mentioning pedophilia comes from. The main character acknowledges this complexity, so it isn't an oblivious presentation, but it is still present.
Overall, I love vampires, and so I enjoyed this book, despite the mismatched expectations causing it to be a bit of a slog to finish. If I was reading a hard copy and not an audiobook, this likely would have been a DNF for me, simply for attention span reasons. I recommend it to other vampire people and philosophical peoplw though!
