Despite how much I wanted to carry on with this series until the end, I found myself struggling on the third book… It could be partially because I had to take long breaks in between reading because of a busy schedule. I am a binge reader so I lose interest when I take too many breaks or too long of breaks. That could be the case, or it could also just be I wasn’t enjoying the series anymore also. I lost interest in a lot of the characters… I’ve read a lot of reviews that were rooting for Maven and people who had him as their favorite character. I didn’t like Maven and not once rooted for him. That could also be because I kept myself from getting attached to him in the first book because I knew a plot twist was coming, but I don’t know. Cal, who I once rooted for and loved, started to annoy me in this book. He was too neutral and didn’t display the loyalty or fight I wanted to see in him — especially in his pursuit to get Mare back. Then there’s Mare, I don’t know how I feel about her. I just, eh? Cameron annoyed me too. I don’t know, I wanted to love this series as much as I enjoyed the first book but I just couldn’t get into it anymore… I finished the book with 100 pages still left to read but I know what already happens in the end from spoilers so I don’t feel the need to call this a DNF. Still sad though because I wanted to love this more.

This series keeps getting better

Mare is truly her own person in this novel, finally. This is the one that made me feel like I actually know her as a full character, not some pawn thrown around by fate and the male characters.

I really am enjoying this series and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out in the end.
