Frankenstein is a masterpiece. This is not the story of a killing monster. This is not the story of a genius scientist. This is the story of despair, grief, and emotion. The prose possesses the magical quality found only in books from the early 1800s. Mary Shelley paints beautiful landscapes and lavish scenery, only to paint in them characters drowning in sorrow. Frankenstein is driven by passion and ambition to create life and loses everyone he loves one by one as a result. Not one page is wasted here- every sentence, every word adds to the story.
This is a classic for all the right reasons. 5/5 favorite.

Estoy admirada.

I had never had a character that I loved as much as Prometheus when I read this book. He was abandoned by his creator and lived a life without love void of anyone understanding him. As a senior in high school coming from a family with the most bizarre adoption issues...I totally ate it up.

This is one of my favorite Victorian pieces of literature.

I understand why this is a classic and why many people enjoy it... I, however, did not.

I am still glad that I took the time to read it for the same reason I never really regret reading a classic. Every time I read one, it helps me to further map out the evolutions in story telling. This book was the first of its kind on many fronts and is very deserving of the high praise it tends to get. I just couldn't really find any personal enjoyment in it. I doubt it is something I will read again in the future but I would recommend anyone to read it at least once for its historical significance to literature as a whole.

i had to read it for a uni subject and i wasn’t really in the mood :(

Shelley’s language is unbelievably good. Every sentence is intentional and vivid. The depth she brings to the main characters should be a masterclass for today’s writers.
