damn this wasn’t i expected at all from the original Frankenstein story. however,,, quickly became one of my favorite books EVER. her prose is so pleasing to the ear that she made depression sound pretty 😭

no matter how bad of a time you’re having, just know that Victor and the Creature probably had worse.

I was a little surprised that this felt like the literary version of most Joy Division songs. It was a pleasant surprise in some ways.

Timely story. Frankenstein doesn't understand the ramifications of his actions (creating the man) or inactions(abandoning and betraying it)

If Victor hadn't have run from the monster upon first looking at him, none of this would have happened. He is simply a reflection of the flaws of his creator.

Remembering the miscarriages that both Shelley and her mother experienced, her mother's passing, her premature daughter's death, how her husband separated from her father, and, perhaps, worse of all, the fact that she had to put up with Bryon, there's a lot of depth both on and off the page which is masterfully interwoven.
