Dear HBO,

Please turn this gripping, genre-bending book into a series as soon as possible. I’ll be waiting.

Thanks!

Love,
Andrea

Jon? Joe?

While i found this book to be really interesting, the writing style was so similar to her You series that I kept envisioning the Joe character. That makes it difficult to keep the new character separate. Usually I’m not so bothered by something like writing style but it’s so significant. It’s when you’re in the character’s thoughts and they repeat words over and over. She usually does three words and then repeats them again later to tie in the thoughts and actions. Ugh... if you know what I mean, you know. I also didn’t like the lack of resolution. Some people find that fascinating but i would’ve liked at least some kind of justice or meaning behind it. Just my opinion... in would still read more from this author regardless.

This was weird. Kind of a blend of sci fi and lost love. Didn't like it as much as You.

Really enjoyed this! Would have loved a different ending but that’s the romantic in me

3.5 stars.

Great writing as usual for Kepnes, just a really almost pointless story?? I just feel like it led to nowhere. And it was a long story. Also it’s said to be a thriller and it’s not at all??? It’s more of a slow mystery but even still not that engaging.

I found this book fascinating. It was really hard to put down. I hadn’t read the synopsis so I went in totally blind which was such a good decision. It did drag in a few spots but other than that I really enjoyed the distinctive characters and their points of view.

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher via NetGalley.

So disappointing.

The story was so boring. The characters were all annoying. Chloe was such a loser, pining for a guy who she knew in high school for like 3 minutes (ok, 3 years, but come on already). Jon wasn't redeemable, he was immature and annoying and also quite one dimensional. Eggs was the WORST. He was so frustrating, sexist, just an awful husband and a super annoying detective.

I think this book needed a heavy edit job. and maybe a new plot.

ugh. what a waste of time.

Kepnes does it again in Providence, proving she has wonderfully captivating and creative stories and characters up her sleeve.

Providence is intriguing with just the right balance of human interest, romance, science fiction, and suspense. Don't be turned off by the Lovecraft references, either. You don't need a history in Lovecraft to follow this story. Kepnes, as always, use this and other cultural references to build a believable world to get lost in on a Saturday afternoon.

I can't wait to see what she gives us next. In the meantime I need to figure out what a Fluffernutter Frappe is and where to find one.

I'm not sure what made me pick up this book.
I didn't realise it was sort of sci-fi until I looked at some reviews.
I really enjoyed it, I mean I read over 40% of it in one sitting.
My heart breaks for Jon and his family.
I just wish we got more answers regrading the science.

**edit**
The last half of the book was a much faster read than the first half, but mostly because I was skimming the pages.

It took me 2 weeks to get halfway through. I know I'm in the minority saying that I didn't even like You, but I thought I'd give Caroline Kepnes another shot when I saw this ARC posted on Netgalley. I was actually excited to see it and thrilled when I was approved.

The first part of the book was good, it had me, intrigued by the relationship between Jon and Chloe, best friends - would it evolve into something more? Then Jon disappeared for 4 years and reappears, but is not himself.

This is where things went downhill. Then came more characters, more genres, and it went from an enjoyable read to just making it through.

The story, told from three different perspectives, is convoluted to say the least.

Once the story jumps to adult Jon & Chloe, I lost interest, I no longer was curious what would happen to this relationship as it was hard enough to focus on what I was reading.

I decided to finish the book, despite my disinterest, as this was provided free to me for my honest review. Had it been something I'd purchased I would have donated it at the halfway point.
