I enjoyed the different character perspectives in this book, as well as the tone shifts each of them represent. As a whole, they openly are the author's voice and you can tell. Primarily a love story, this book shows the beauty of how even when time and the world are against you, giving up is not an option. My only complaint is I felt a little unsatisfied with the ending.
Abandono este libro al 32% porque ahora mismo no tengo la cabeza para un libro con tantas perspectivas y no me estoy enterando de nada. Al principio estaba bien pero luego se ha convertido en un barullo.
A bit underwhelming for me. I did have high hopes for this one considering how so many people said this was and amazing book. That being said it was a good book, but it just wasn’t what I was expecting. It did take me awhile for me to get into the book, but there is some creative choices here that Kepnes does a great job with creating a tone, but needs some focus and make here characters stand out more.
In a nutshell: a literary superhero origin story, complete with mad scientist, dork-turned-hunk with double-edged powers, the artsy-and-unattainable love interest, the archnemesis, the dogged detective with a heart of gold, and the slaying of villains for the greater good. I want a sequel!
Chloe and Jon are friends, growing up united against the world, when Jon was kidnapped by a substitute teacher and disappeared for 4 years. Except when Jon does return, something has happened to him, something his kidnapper has changed in him. Jon has been cursed with an incredible power to kill anyone in his immediate vicinity, without any way to control this power.
Hearbroken, Jon disappears again as he doesn't want to kill those he loves -- Chloe and his parents. A police detective struck by the number of deaths by heart attack in young folks investigates. And this is his story too.
At times, I really enjoyed this book, but at times it left me cold. But I won't be forgetting it.

To fans of You & Hidden Bodies, be aware that this is nothing like those 2 books. Not that I think authors have to write constantly the same style or characters, but this was way off in left field. It started off holding my interest but soon waned. I felt like I was missing some parallel from the get go. Maybe just not for me.
I do appreciate this early copy sent to me upon the request of the author.

This book was an interesting and easy read told from different viewpoints but there no true resolution of what happened to Jon and at one point you think it's veering into super hero origin story but it doesn't really go there. I needed more resolution to the story; I only accept semi-open-ended stories if they are master works of literature, which (albeit good) this is not.
3 1/2. I love her, but this wasn’t my favorite. It does make me want to read Lovrcraft though.
