3. I got this book GoodReads First Reads Giveaways for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book for the most part. I had a few problems with not getting enough closure with some of the parts of the plot. I also really disliked the chapter titles they made no sense with anything else within the book.
In reading the description of this book I also assumed that there would be more of Torrey blogging but it is difficult for her due to the recent events in her life. Torrey is dealing with a lot within her family, moving, and her old friends and new friends. She doesn't deal with all of these different things very well. She did have a tragic event happen in her life but I feel like throughout the whole book she was very whiny and a little bit annoying. She has a struggle to choose between popular mean girls or nice friendly people. Why is this always such a difficult decision for people?! This should be easy. While reading, I also found that this book had a kind of Mean Girls feel to it. The ending was also unbearably predictable, take a hot sec and think of how this book could possibly end, without reading it you're probably right.

Okay, so I put off reading this book for a lot longer than anticipated once I bought it. I usually take a week at most, but it took a year for me to finally pick this book up and get to it. And yikes. First off, I have to say it wasn't the worst book I've read. I loved the little romance and the supportive, always happy cousin, and I can for sure ignore a mean girl cliche when I see one (by the way, loved how the worst mean girl in the group was actually the side-kick #2 in this case, instead of the Queen B herself). But I had two main issues: Torrey's fame, and Torrey's attitude. Baby, you are NOT that famous to be acting like you run the world! She has around 300k subscribers, and yet somehow everyone on planet earth knows who she is or has at least watched one of her videos? Mmm, sounds a lil sketch to me. And then there's her whole "I snort popularity like it's cocaine" thing she has going for her. No baby! I get if you're the spotlight, and I understand that some girls in high school are trying to climb the social ladder, so it's not the most unrealistic thing to put in a story. But Torrey is so unlikeable with her "I'm better than you because I inject Vuitton heels into my arm for breakfast" attitude that I think it might have been my subconscious actually TRYING to get me to have not read this. Once again, though, it's not the worst book!!! And I love how culturally aware it is with Luis' family and the Day of the Dead. But since I physically, mentally, and spiritually couldn't get over how unrealistic her fame was and how snobby she was, I had to write a bad review on it.
Listened to this on audiobook. Before I say that the vlog parts were extremely corny, I have to remember that this story is told in the perspective of a teenager. I knew what I was getting into! I thought this was a unique portrayal of grief and coping, and I appreciated that.
Can't Look Away tells the tale of Torrey, a fashion and beauty vlogger who is recovering from the tragic loss of her sister, which she is loaded with guilt about because she feels she caused her death. Torrey moves to a new school and quickly attracts the attention of the queen bees, as well as the social outcasts. Will she choose to remain in the popular crowd by going along with everything Blair asks, or will she finally break out and learn to heal through her relationship with Luis? The characters in this novel were very shallow, leaving me feeling very little emotion for any of them at the end. The storyline weaved itself in circles, while leaving loopholes (for example, what exactly happened with her best friend back home and her ex?). Overall I would recommend this book to someone who is looking for a light read with little substance, and who can delve into a storyline that doesn't follow your usual patterns.
Such a good book dealing with such a rough topic
It was a good book. The characters were strong and their development is beautiful and painful.
The only thing that I didn't like very much was the ending, because it felt rushed.
I wanted to like this book, but I just could not get into this book. I wanted to stop multiple time and not finish the story. I did not like how the main character was written.
I liked her first book Skinny, and this is very similar. Crooner tackles death, guilt and online vlogs life. Review to come!
Received this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book. It is my true opinion only.

This is a story about a beauty vlogger that stops vlogging at a tragic accident that results in her sister's death.
Torrey is used to the spotlight as she has so many followers and views on her channel.
So of course when she's new at school, she will want to be a part of the popular group.
Torn between liking a social drop out called Luis or from being friends with the IT girls, Torrey had to make a decision.
Torrey is being personally attacked by some viewers; saying she's using her sister's death to get her rise in fame.
A video also gets uploaded of her and her sister arguing before she gets killed.
So now Torrey has to deal with the threats as well as the loss of her sister.
I really liked the whole concept of the YouTube vlogging as I do have a channel myself, so therefore I can relate to it.
My only problem was that I had trouble liking the main character Torrey. She is horrible and selfish and I just really wanted to slap her.
I realise this is probably how Donna Cooner wanted it to come across.
But in the end she did see how she came across and righted her wrongs. Well done, Torrey.
This story is fresh in itself though and I did really enjoy it.
Of course my favourite character was Luis. He doesn't care about his social status and yet he's cool at the same time.
I like how at the beginning of every chapter there is a quote taken from Torrey's vlogs, and the chapters are titled as if it's a topic for a video. I really liked that format.
This is definitely one of those books for the fans of contemporaries. It is short, quick and sweet.
Vloggers can relate to this.
Overall I really enjoyed it and recommend you given it a go! :)
