Nou ik ben er doorheen. Niet het beste boek uit de serie. Maar altijd vol met mooie passages en karakterontwikkeling. Wel beter dan de tv serie.

Found myself struggling a little with this book in the series; missing some of my favourites who don't appear and not enthralled by parts of the plot. Still, it's good, I did enjoy it and I'll keep reading the series.

Okay so there are negatives and positives here.
I want to get the negatives out of the way so first things first, this is a slowwww read. Also, the lack of Tyrion, Daenerys and hardly any Jon Snow made this book boring to begin with.
I put it down and it took me literally 10 months to pick it back up! Once I did, I was glad though.

My positives are that there's less action and moving about so you kind of have a better handle on the story. Less of my favourite characters were killed thank the God's...and finally Cersei is getting payback for being a bitch! Muhuhahaha!

Ironborn chapters were a snooze sometimes but i am LIVING for Cersei and Brienne. Dont leave me on a cliffhanger George.

Definitely the weakest in the series, thus far. I'm in the minority, it seems, as I didn't start this series from the beginning, so won't have to wait for the next book - it's already downloaded on my iPad. That being said, I felt like I was constantly missing portions of the story, especially after Book 3's finish. This just seemed more like a book I needed to get through to continue the series.

That being said, character development was still fantastic with the characters that were highlighted. Cersei was a manipulative witch of a queen, the one that you love to hate. She really is ridiculously deranged, and I love George RR Martin for making her this way. Narcissism at its best, that's for sure!

Jaime was a bit more puzzling for me. At the end of book 3, I was LOVING him. In this book, I was somewhat wishy-washy. Loved that he didn't fall for any of his sister's ploys, but still, he just seemed a bit uneventful to me. I missed Tyrion as part of the sibling trio. Perhaps that would have added something?

Brienne was by far, my favorite character in this entire book. Talk about someone on a quest. I just picture someone completely and totally awkward beyond any measure, and she fits the bill.

As for the new characters, I actually had a tough time keeping them all straight and am hoping that at some point, all of these groups will merge and make sense. For now, they seem a bit disjointed.

One of the reviews I just read mentioned that this book suffers from the middle of the series slump. Perhaps. Perhaps it's just that it's honestly half the book. Perhaps, it was just a long read? Not quite sure, but it didn't grab me as much as the previous 3 books did. Still a good read, just not tremendous.
