I've never read any of Freya North before and received this free Harper Collins. Frankie lives in Norfolk with her two children, she goes to London on a business trip and meets Scott in her hotel. Scott is also visiting London on business but lives in British Columbia. Even though they're thousands of miles apart they embark on a relationship and the book follows them growing closer to each other and their respective families.

I have to say that I totally enjoyed this book and got so involved with the characters that I ended up laughing and crying with them. If you've never read Freya North before then I'd totally recommend her.

Not quite what I was expecting, but beautifully written and completely engrossing - I was properly crying through the final third. Freya North's characters are very human: not always likeable but always engaging. Glad I read this one.

Made to page 186 and there was nothing happening except a long distance romance between two people. I picked it up because one of the charactors was local to me (Pemberton, BC), but some of language he used (hey, instead of eh) and some of the things he talked about (beaver tails? no-one around here eats beavertails) made me think that the closest Freye North has been to this part of Canada is on her Pinterest account..

I pretty much always read Freya North's new releases because I really loved her early novels but they seem to be getting less exciting for me. This one was one of my least favourite even though it was really readable and hooked me in, I felt like I just couldn't imagine the characters and it all felt too good to be true! Also some of the stuff was just too cheesy!

What a glorious book! Set in both British Columbia and my own home county of North Norfolk. It is a poignant and beautiful love story with several profound messages at its heart. Superbly descriptive and so minutely researched that it literally transports the reader to into its very soul. A book that will absorb and move you in equal measure.

I was expecting a gentle romance, where there is strife but usually a happily ever after (for now). So I will admit to being knocked slightly off kilter by the fourth section.
I can understand why the author chose the route she did, but I'm disappointed.

I really enjoyed this novel. There’s something fascinating about long distance romances and the struggles involved with trying to maintain one. These are also people older than their twenties with life experience behind them, so there are more complications ie children involved which makes it all the more interesting.

Scott and Frankie were two very interesting characters and ones which I could really identify with in many ways. They seemed very real with real lives and real problems and the many varied secondary characters too were great additions to ensure the story had more depth. I mean when you have a long distance love problem, your friends are going to play a big part in that story in real life!

Freya North is one lovely writer and she describes the settings in the books extremely well - from Canada to Norfolk and across the Atlantic Ocean, the sense of place and time is beautifully done and both were vivid and real. Perfect as the story depends on you immersing yourself in both.

I really started to care for these two and willed them to get back together but it was the back and forth across oceans and the wealth of emotions the story created that really got me going.

Am I just a big softie at heart? Probably.

I have read all of Freya North's books and feel like her writing has matured over the years. The love story between the two main characters was interesting and the twist though hinted at in the summary was a shock. The last part of the book was well written and I did feel bereft when I finished the book.
