I got this from Amazon First Reads. This is all drama drama drama! It’s a mystery thriller about Good Holly and Bad Holly. lol this was really twisted and funny about the toxic female friendships with lots of betrayal and lots of metaphors about mosquitos as those “tiny daggers” the truth is razor sharp and the ending was … interesting to say the least. Nothing too deep but I’m not saying much. If you like bitchiness and drama with mystery sprinkled in then this is great.

A slow burn, a twist I didn’t see coming, unlikeable characters. All things I like in a book but this one just missed the mark.

Corcoran has written an unnervingly good toxic friendship with a manipulative bully who is a narcissist and pathological liar, which at times had me wondering if she knew the person that taught me these lessons personally. I was genuinely unsettled by some of the similarities I saw in the dynamic between the two Hollys, particularly when it flashed back to their school years, and the differences in the way a teenager and an adult can recognize cruelty when it's shrouded in the words of friendship.

Other than that, though... this was a cast of unlikeable people, from top to bottom. I don't even think I liked Holly Jones's kid, which is impressive. Everyone that seemed cool and interesting up front wound up being shitty, and it's almost like the ones who seemed the most likeable up-front were the vilest of them as the book unravelled. Truly a deep dive on crappy, selfish, surface-level people.

I would also bet money that the author wanted to call this book MOSQUITO.

Ok…. It is just interesting enough to keep me reading but not filled with crazy suspenseful twists and turns. While I usually prefer a little more suspense, I did enjoy the way it is written and had to see what was going to happen to land it on the psych thriller genre list.  It’s psychological…… more than thriller and for that I would almost remove another star.  But- I don’t like to put anything else in life in “categories” so why mark against this well written, sorted and versed book that I did enjoy?
