That was really good. The narrator was great. I am going to have to listen to the rest of the series!

IAD, I wish I knew how to quit you.

That’s mostly a lie. Yes, I alternately giggle and gape at the page when I’m reading these. They’re so unhinged. And yet, under the top coat of pure chaos, there’s always a bit of substance to chew on. In this one, for instance, there was a  forthright and respectful examination of a man’s experience of child sexual abuse. How often does an author brave that topic, and in such a context no less? Here, have some demons and vampires and hell dimensions and witches and magic, and let’s mix in some X-Men shit and bad guys trying to experiment on super powered people, and THEN let’s also throw in a nuanced take on an incredibly sensitive topic.

There’s problematic shit in this story and this series too, don’t get me wrong. But you gotta respect what Kresley has going on here regardless.

I adore the IAD series. There is something about the sexy love stories and the over the top world they live in. Insta-love has never been so crazy sexy.

This is my #1 IAD book - it hit all the right notes for me - possessive, sexy, broody hero and a funny, empowered, cool heroine (who I would LOVE to be friends with). They are really different in many ways and that is why their relationship is delightful.

As always there are many twists and turns and steaming hot moments before their story ends. I love hearing more about the overarching story and cameos of previous characters (and coming soon characters!).

I wished this story were longer. It’s the start of The Order and the Immortal Island arc that is the jumping off point for the next 6 or so books, but we didn’t really get to see much of the island itself in this one. Also, it’s not a trope I love, but I applaud Kresley for putting a spin on the single parent trope in a way that’s really consistent with how her paranormal world operates.

Narration: The beginning of the infamous riiiiinnnggg! Trust me, just listen to it.

The first half had a rather unique spin and the second half was a whirlwind with lots of the other characters, so all in all this was very entertaining.

After starting to lose interest in the last 2 installments; DFTD pulled me back in.

The story was a little bit different and I liked the characters. Carrow The Incarcerated was one of my favorites through her cameos as Mariketa's best friend and fellow witch/mercenary. I liked her devil-may-care party girl attitude; although DFTD reveals that her rebellious nature springs from a childhood of neglect and emotional abuse. She's a strong heroine, she kicks some ass and she isn't a whiner.

Malkom Slaine, Carrow's fated mate; is the epitome of the tortured hero complete with a history of emotional, physical and sexual abuse, trust and self esteem issues. His vemon status makes him kinda crazy, dangeous, sexy; although he thinks it makes him an abomination. I tend to be somewhat ambivalent about the tortured hero, but Malkom pulls it off - he is emotionally vulnerable and damaged without being really whiny or completely dysfunctional.

I thought there was good chemistry between Malkom and Carrow and I liked the addition of little Ruby. It was fun to see the other Lore characters make an appearance; and I'm really curious as to how Regin's Adain is going to get turned into a love interest after the Declan incarnation. I've also come to the conclusion that Nix is single handly master minding...everything!

I'm a little proud of how this one ended. I'm also really, really into Lothaire for some reason...please say his book is next!
