Pay attention to the individual character’s voices, especially in the middle and end

I feel complicated about this one. Woolf’s writing is at its most poetic and evocative in The Waves, and she beautifully captures the emotions and sensations of being a child to growing old. Her unique style follows no plot, and while it allows for a deep understanding of the characters as they struggle with issues of identity, life, and death, it also makes the book difficult to follow. So much of this book is perfect to me, but then there is so much language that I found extraneous and made it challenging for me to keep reading.
