I have read this in print copy before but felt like listening to Sir David's voice for a while. Absolutely delightful. What a career this man has had.

Having just spent nineteen hours of my life listening to David Attenborough telling me about his extraordinary adventures, I believe the next logical step is to read literally everything else he has ever written while I work through his entire filmography. And then perhaps move to London, to become his protégé.
Enjoyable audiobook that not only showcases interesting tidbits about the many series Attenborough has made and how they came to up, but also informs the reader on the changing landscape in broadcasting.
Not usually a biography fan, I was hoping that this book, the autobiography of one of my favourite 'celebrities' would be something more than the usual trite retelling of a life-story. Thankfully it was - this is the amazing story of one of the most fascinating careers in British broadcasting, told with wit and enthusiasm. Attenborough guides his readers through the early days of broadcast television to the modern day, mixing details of the technology involved, the fascinating assignments he followed all over the world, the pioneering work he did, and the politics he had to encounter. He is unstinting with his praise of others, and only ever 'has a go' at people in an oblique and rather dry way.
This really is what it says in the title - this is not Sir David's life per se, as he only includes personal details or stories of his childhood and family life where it is relevant to his TV career. There is only one oblique reference to his famous brother, and while he writes lovingly of his wife, you don't really get an insight into how his family felt about Sir David being away so much of the time, and he is rather candid about his feelings on the matter. While this would probably have been interesting, it is no detriment to the book that it is not included - rather you get the feeling that this is a dignified look at a great career, where he has left in the interesting bits without feeling the need to expose personal details.
Overall, this is a great read - the stories of how and why Attenborough made the series he did was a joy for this fan; the humour was funny without being forced; and this reader came away even more of a fan of Sir David Attenborough, which I did not really think was possible.

This man is one of my favourite people on the planet. Reading about his career on television was wonderful, and I feel the drive now to get out my Life Collection and do much watching. He writes so well, and manages to make you see the places he has been even without the use of a tv. Highly recommended!
