Reviews with content warning for Child abuse - The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches

I don't know how to rate this book, I just finished it and it concluded really nicely and satisfyingly. I guess I didn't completely love the characters? Or more like for how closed off mika was supposed to be she just poured out all her emotions pretty soon and seemingly easily. I always complain about the lack of communication between characters but in this case it was .. I don't know exactly how to say it but the way each character recited their own history and trauma and seemed to have self analysed themselves so well, it felt like therapist talk out of everyone's mouths.
But disregarding that the ending did make me happy and overall the idea of the book is also very cute.

The only reason this isn't a 5 star rating is I felt there were some pacing issues here and there that took me out of the story a little bit. Other than that, this story was a perfect found family, romance, fantasy novel which I am so glad to have found and read.

This is pretty much a TJ Klune book, which is not a bad thing, I just kept hoping it would surprise me a bit more. (If, on the other hand, you enjoyed this and have somehow not read Klune, you’re missing out). It’s sweet, cozy and peripherally Christmas-y, and the characters are very lovable - it is a pleasant if not especially challenging read. The audio narrator was quite good, especially in differentiating the three children without getting too cloying.

Fantastically cozy read with loveable children characters and although the ending was a bit everything is okay in the end I didn't mind it at all and was actually shocked by the twist
