in finals month atm so I don't have the braincells for my usual review style, but everything I loved about the first book, I loved about this one too. Deonn's writing style changed slightly which is why my rating dropped + some minor continuity issues but everything else was perfection as usual. I love how her incorporation of Authurian legend didn't conform to the all or nothing approach people have to heroes (especially with Authur). I loved her characterisation; everyone is complex and 3-dimmensional and loveable not just despite but also because of their flaws and complexities. I love her portrayal of friendship, love and trauma, and the way she has me engaged the entire time. her plot twists always make sense and her use of symbolism and nuance is refreshing amongst the YA authors of today.

FINALLY finished my reread of this! It did not disappoint, just hit me right before a big reading slump. I forgot how crazy the ending gets, thankfully I have Oathbound ready to go! I adored Sel and Bree's dynamic, it's by far my favorite part of the book. And Alice being more and more involved! While reading, I went to see Sinners twice. A very different vibe of racism and black culture in the South, but it helped me get back into the mindset to finish the book after weeks of reading maybe a chapter or two a week!
