Pretty violent interesting story though, I was wondering what the big deal was about Alex, and also wondering why he didn’t know why he was untouchable. A little unbelievable with how much the PI went through and didn’t curl up in a giant bruised mess, but it did make it exciting

David Raker is a private investigator of sorts, still mourning the death of his wife. He is approached by a woman who wants him to find her son - except her son was killed in a horrific car smash a year earlier. But she is positive the man she saw is her son, and David eventually takes on the case. He knows something is up when he comes up a series of shady characters and has his life threatened.
This is an over-the-top action thriller, but at least it moves. It was hard to put down! The longer I take a break from unreliable female narrator thrillers, the better! The plot isn't a lot more than David following the clues and going from person to person, who offer differing levels of help. But I wanted to find out what was going on, and the sequences with the mask-wearing killer known only as Legion were quite freaky and unsettling.
You have to suspend a lot of disbelief to go along with this one. I didn't really buy David's reasoning for continuing on the case. Indeed, by the end, he has been tortured and beaten up enough that he's even still alive, much less conscious and able to keep on ticking. But I guess that's par for the course for this loner investigator type subgenre. Always interesting, sometimes exciting, very brutal, this is one I quite enjoyed.

This was definitely gripping, but holy fuck it’s so cliche it genuinely felt like parody at times. The story kept me interested, but it was a bit too violent and gruesome for how I generally prefer my thrillers which is purely personal. Tim Weaver is undoubtedly an excellent writer and comes up with really fantastic mysteries that are unwound cleverly, but I think they’re just not quite for me.

A new series for me and one I've been looking forward to starting for a while. We are introduced to recently bereaved missing person investigator David Raker who is approached by a lady who is convinced she saw her son, a year after he supposedly died in an horrific car accident. Reluctantly he takes on the case and uncovers far more than someone apparently risen from the dead! I did enjoy this and the complex storyline as well as the twists and surprises however equally I sometimes struggled with the sheer number of characters and felt that some scenes were drawn out a bit too much. It is brutal at times and a couple of characters are particularly unpleasant, however despite my small misgivings, I will definitely continue with the series.

This is an unusual premise for a book. This follows David Raker who investigates missing people. This is the first novel I have read with this subject manner. Unusual for me this book is also set in the UK so there were lots of references I could relate to. This was fast paced and extremely engaging throughout. At the end the violence is a little uncomfortable but it is well written. I greatly enjoyed this novel however, I will not be rushing to read more from the series which is in conflict to how much I liked the book and something I can not fathom. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
