This book was recommended in so many different places. I can see why. It was absolutely amazing. I listened to the audiobook version and quite enjoyed hearing the words in the author's own voice. I feel like it added something, especially as a white woman reading about what it's like to be black in America.

This book is beautifully written. The juxtaposition of the elegant prose with the raw and unapologetically honest subject matter felt slightly unsettling, but in a good way, and definitely helped to add to the rawness of the book. Coates tells his story as a letter to his son and is not trying to sugar-coat or add false hope to anything. He just tells you what happened and how he felt with candor. I highly recommend reading this book (or listening to it, like I did). It's beautiful and real.

Just finished this book a second time through an audiobook and just as great. In fact, better. Te-Nehisi Coates captured the lyricism and emotion of his writing much more than just reading it on my own. Highly highly recommend.

This is equally heartbreaking as it is important.

I don't know that I can add anything that hasn't already been said by just about any of the reviews I've seen about this book.

The author's voice - both written and spoken - is clear and authentic and powerful. As a white woman who grew up in a racial diverse family in a racially diverse area, there were some things in the book that I absolutely recognized but even more that I'll never experience. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

This is so beautifully written. It's difficult not to cry while reading this but it's an impossibly important perspective on the American experience and humanity as a whole.

I would say just read the book.

Between the world and me is not a book one should comment. It should only be read.
There are things there which make you ashamed of yourself, fears you understand and have experienced and situations in the which you have been...but those are not the reasons to read it.
This book just is. In it you will not find the reason to read it, the author will not subtly tell you why it is written, he will not tell you what to think afterwards and how to make it better.
The book just is..

Just read it
