This book puts a lot of the issues of anti-blackness in America and the legacy of slavery and the damage of ongoing white supremacy into a very personal, human perspective that I think is really necessary for white people to read. It's painful to read in a way that we need to be hurt. Really clear in voice and purpose. An excellent book.
Graphic: Racism and Racial slurs
Moderate: Rape, Violence, Slavery, Sexual violence, Police brutality, Hate crime, Gun violence, Grief, Domestic abuse, Death, Child death, and Child abuse

I feel mildly ashamed to admit that before reading this, I assumed I knew what it was about, what it would roughly say. I didn't, really.
This is one of these books that kept me up all night, unable to look away. The writing is powerful, and it reminded me of the indispensability of books to show you perspectives you can't experience but need to grasp. Please read it
PS the audiobook, read by the author, is amazing
