So many thoughts swirl around in my head. I'm not sure how to articulate them so they make sense. The passion behind Coates' writing hits you like a wall. And the reality of the circumstances people of color face every day simply for being brown, black, yellow, red, tan...my heart cracks into dust. Coates clinches the desire within me to be fearless in the face of injustice. For the humanity of every single people who is any other shade besides white, it is our duty as humans to stand up and push back.

We only get one body. Any color, any ability, any culture, any religion, any gender, we have to take care of each other and ourselves.

This is probably one of the most poignant books I've read this year, if not ever. A must-read.

This book puts a lot of the issues of anti-blackness in America and the legacy of slavery and the damage of ongoing white supremacy into a very personal, human perspective that I think is really necessary for white people to read. It's painful to read in a way that we need to be hurt. Really clear in voice and purpose. An excellent book.
