Have you discovered Guideposts Books Ordinary Women of the Bible series?

As a fan of #biblicalfiction, the publisher's plan to include contributions from genre veterans, as well as well-known authors from other genres, really appealed to me. The book I just finished was written by a debut #Christianauthor. Of the dozen books I've read from this series, The Dream Weaver's Bride: Asenath's Story (Jenelle Hovde) ranks in the top three!

Who was Asenath? She was given to Joseph as a wife and became the mother of Manasseh and Ephraim (see Genesis 41). Once I began reading her story, I questioned why I hadn't given any thought to what it must have been like for the daughter of an Egyptian priest to marry a Hebrew (Genesis 43:32), let alone a man whose monotheistic beliefs would have been considered heretical by her people. Hovde made me consider these things as I walked in Asenath's sandals throughout the novel. I will mention that most of the book is told from her point of view with just a handful of chapters written to give readers special insights into Joseph's state of mind.

From the outset, the author satisfied my curiosity with interesting facts about the history and customs of the period. In the end, however, the way she delivered two emotionally charged scenes will be what I remember about The Dream Weaver's Bride. It's a great summer reading choice for readers who want a book full of history and heart.

I received a copy of this title from the author. The opinions expressed are my own.
