3.5 Strongly written if unsurprising plot-wise falling-for-the-movie-star romance, with the added complication of both protagonists dealing with mental health issues. Grace, a script supervisor on an indie action film, struggles with anxiety, but hers is at the level of a personality quirk, annoying but not debilitating. Ex-child and teen star Scott, in contrast, is a recovering drug addict whose anxiety (and later depression) nearly derail his efforts to turn his failing career around. Falling for Grace, who calls him on his dickish (if understandable, given his anxiety) behavior helps him stay on an even keel during the New Orleans-set movie shoot. But when the two have to part ways when the film wraps, both long-distance romance and mental health, prove trickier to maintain.

I should know by now that anything Susannah Nix writes is gold to me. I wasn’t sure about this one for some reason but it didn’t take long to fall for this two lovable rascals.

Scott is coming back into the movie industry after a spectacle burn out with drugs and alcohol. Clean now and rebuilding his life he’s got one shot at rebuilding his reputation and showing everyone he’s not just a good looking drug addict. Hard working Grace has been on plenty of movie sets and worked with a lot of diva actors as a script supervisor, but this one is proving to be a while new adventure. With Scott being a complete jerk on set the first day but showing some venerability when he needs some help from her later that night. They have a bumpy start but these two very different people have a lot in common and it doesn’t take long for them to catch real feelings and start something never is sure they will want to stop.

I love the duel 3rd person perspective for this book. It’s nice to get both side of the story and understand the feeling of these character especially when a lot of the conflict comes for miscommunication and keeping their feeling to themselves.

The burn is slow with this one but its worth the wait. Nix delivers nice steamy spice that is always satisfying!

I throughly enjoyed this book it was fun to “be on set” with these characters and all the research Nix did about making movies was spot on and cool to read! The supporting characters were all great, particularly Carmen the wardrobe supervisor, its fun to read about the thing I do for a living!

"Fallen Star" centers on Scott Deacon, a former child star turned grown-up Hollywood bad boy, and Grace Speer, a script supervisor who has sworn to never again date an actor after her last boyfriend left her for his younger co-star. Scott and Grace are thrown together on a location shoot for Scott's latest movie in New Orleans, his attempt at a comeback after several years spent away from the spotlight overcoming a drug addiction. Scott is desperate to prove that he still has what it takes to be a successful Hollywood actor. Grace, meanwhile, has serious reservations about Scott due to his bad reputation and is determined to keep her distance, but her job forces her to work closely with him throughout the shoot. Not only that, Grace and Scott end up living next door to each other in rental housing provided by the production, and eventually form an unlikely friendship while fighting stronger feelings for each other. Will Scott be able to overcome Grace's reservations about dating an actor, especially one with his track record of addiction and fear of commitment? You'll just have to read the book for yourself to find out! :-)

Overall, I highly recommend "Fallen Star." It was absolutely a 5-star read for me. I can't wait to see what Susannah Nix writes next!

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. The writing could veer into cheesy at times, but overall, a fun read with great characters. The exploration of life after addiction was fascinating and seemed to be really well done (although I don’t have personal experience with addiction or being around someone in the early stages of post-rehab life, so YMMV).
