Such a cute rewrite of the story. Focused more on Mulans inner battle and Shangs view of her. The description of Diyu was so interesting and well written

Aside from the original source material, Lim manages to use the “Mulan” mythos to create a surprisingly engrossing story with steeped in Chinese mythology while still capturing the central moral of the 1998 film.

Very fun.  It takes after the movie version, starting with the huns and the avalanche, then immediately deviates. It is not a retelling, but a what if expansion. Certainly a lot of fun and wonderful to watch Mulans journey.

I wish there was more emphasis on shang and mulan's relationship at the end, although I understand this it fit in between scenes in the movie. Also, felt like there was so much action at times, it was hard to keep up with who was moving where and who was fighting what.

This series is fun, and this is my primary takeaway. I liked that this one didn't feel the need to go into the first half of the movie and instead starts where the divergence from cannon happens. Like, if you're picking this up, I assume you know what's happened up until now. And it was really different and fun to read. It's fast-paced. A little more plot-driven than character-driven for my tastes, but I still had a good time. I also thought the romance stuff between Mulan and Shang was very cute.
