This book sits with you in an eerie way, and really helps you empathize with victims of domestic violence. The writing style is poetic, too—this is one of my all time favorites.

I’ve read 45 books this year and this was easily my most important read. I would recommend this to anyone who has ever endured emotional abuse regardless of if the abuser was a same-sex partner. This memoir was written so beautifully and did justice of expressing the specific, gut wrenching experience of invisible abuse. I wish I had this book a decade ago. 100 stars.

Stunningly written. I can think of no higher praise than to say In the Dream House is one of the most heartbreaking and insightful memoirs I've ever read.
