This installment sprawled but I admire the time it takes to overcome obstacles/the lack of an easy way out of an impossible situation- it makes the stakes much higher! I'd like to set Regal adrift without oars :)

I remember liking this in high school but I think my tastes have changed significantly since then. There's a lot of ableism (internal and external) as Fitz navigates the new state of his body after the events of last book. I don't like how his early epiphany about how his body still can do things amounts to "at least I'm disabled, not elderly", which is extremely frustrating.

reading this book feels like reading a really messed up diary written by my poor boy Fitz who’s slowly realizing how shitty everyone actually treats him and he should, in fact, stop being so nice and helpful all the time.

I felt like there were parts that could've been cut down but overall really good! The Fool is definitely the most interesting character of the series and I enjoyed learning more about him.

This is one of my all time favorite fantasy books and, I think, the best in the Farseer trilogy. Hobb does an excellent job of putting you in the head of people whose lives are shaped by traumatic events. As someone who enjoys slower-paced books, even I find the pace of this series to be a bit slow (that's just how Hobb writes). That being said, the tension increased dramatically towards the end, leaving off with a fantastic conclusion. There are several thought-provoking quotes in this book that I still think about, and Nighteyes has to be one of my favorite characters in all of fiction. It's definitely not for everyone, but I highly recommend this book (and series) to anyone looking for character-driven fantasy.
