Basically, manga seems to be an insider thing for people who "get it" and I don't think I get it. I'm enjoying it, but I felt lost in this volume. As with some of the other reviewers, I had a hard time keeping characters apart... A hard time following some of the dialog... And I felt like the story wasn't really going anywhere. Kinda like "oh, hey, let's take a break from the storyline to do this little Valentine's Day thingy..."

But maybe that's just me. :) I'm not complaining, just a little disappointed that I didn't "get it". Still looking forward to Vol. 4.

I have read the cute, heartbreaking story of Fruits Basket years ago. And I read it about 3 or 4 times, maybe more. The story is a bit cliche, but the characters are memorable.

A story about closed off loners that broken, depressed and sad individuals hoping for a happiness they could never achieve. Each characters deals with the pain and loneliness differently, learning how to embrace happiness and bloom into individuals they never thought they could be.

Its beautifully written, heartwarming, with relatable emotions anyone can feel. This is one any manga avid reader should go through at least once. A classic that should honestly be recommend by anyone.

Do I recommend it:

- Hatori and Shigure are hard to tell apart at times.

- Is Okami a zombie!?!?

- Tohru has such a positive outlook on life. I want to be like that.

- What is up with Shigure's editor? She is a spaz!

- Yuki is still a fem.

- I like Haru. He is cool!

- There are a lot of people in this manga, but it's handled very well. I don't get confused or anything. It's just that some of them look the same.

So in volume three occurs the proper introduction of one of my favorite side characters -- Hatsuharu -- after a brief cameo in volume 2.

One thing I love about Fruits Basket is that is allows small, slice-of-life situations build the story, both characters and plot. So in volume three we have the adventures of a school endurance run, Valentine's Day, and an Hot Spring trip. All light fair on the surface, but allowing for character exploration.

Of course, the set up of Haru and Momiji joining our main three characters at high school when the next school year starts is a great cliffhanger for more shenanigans to come.
