I found it an interesting and refreshing change of pace that the main character Kelsey was a submissive shape-shifter instead of a dominant one. Kelsey's growth arc was both enjoyable and believable. It was nice to see a realistic portrayal of a submissive personality.

I loved this!! I really enjoyed the world building and lore that was expanded upon from the first book in this series (which I liked, but didn’t love) and I had a great time. I loved both characters of Rue and Kelsey—particularly loved that Kelsey had a kind of flip of the trope of sort of “macho” overprotective werewolf/shapeshifter love interest that is so prevalent (and that I sooort of had problems with in the first novel in this series). I think this is one of my favorite werewolf/shapeshifter paranormal romances I’ve ever read. That has a lot to do with how much I loved both of the different love interests, their dynamic, and (most of) the side characters. I really hope the author returns to them one day and this will def be a re-read/listen for me someday. The narrator did a fabulous job, I loved all of the distinct voices and I adored both voices used for the main characters. Def one of my new favorites and a fun read for October

Oh, this was a thrilling story, there's this undercurrent tension from beginning to end that made me antsy with the outcome and it made all the difference, loved it.

I also loved how the MCs sorta had time to warm up to each other and their power dynamic. One of the things I love the most is the territorialism bit and all the idiosyncrasies related to behaviour, I live for them.
Kelsey deserves the world! and Rue isn't perfect but is really not cool how she's seeing many times as not a good parent when is not the case. However, I'd like to point out that I didn't love the thing that happens close to the end, uhh, the one that Rue's ex and her girlfriend helps with. If we apply that to ourselves, how shitty it is to have that decision taken from us now multiply that for many many more and the risks!!!!!!! But I do get why it happened, I just didn't like the decision being taken from people and for Kelsey the repercussions are even worst!

I wouldn't mind if JAE was to write about these great characters (all of them) again after all this time, it's really fun and I'm a fan of the shifters now.

This was great, but I mean of course it was. This was super fast paced and went more into depth about the world and politics of the paranormal setting Jae created in the first book. It was super interesting, especially since I haven’t read a paranormal series for a while. It is also a complete feat of story writing from Jae that this large book (almost 500 pages) was so addictive and so easy to binge read. I didn’t want to move a muscle while reading this, I was hooked on the story right from the beginning. The relationship, the action and the broader wild all tied together to form a super enjoyable and addictive story.

While I really enjoyed this book, I think I’m in the minority in having enjoyed the first book more, but I think that is completely due to personal taste. I did enjoy the relationship more in the first book and the slow burn, but if you are looking for more action, a faster paced romance and more of the paranormal experience then this was great. I especially found the relationship dynamics really interesting and unique for a paranormal story. It flips the expected power dynamic on its head, while still being filled with chemistry and passion. I do think I wanted a little bit more depth from the relationship, but it was still a very enjoyable romance story.

I think fans of Jae already know she is a great writer of romances, and this is just another book in her huge backlist of greats.

Better than the first

Definitely better than the first story... I feel like the chemistry is a little more fitting or maybe I just enjoyed the characters more I’m not really sure.
