I LOVED the steampunk inspired fantasy world in this book!! It was so much fun and really well done. I also enjoyed the plot of this book, it didn’t quite meet my expectations but it was entertaining nonetheless
The story starts off with Aihui Ying flying into the village on one of her crazy glider inventions, fighting off an assassin and running away to the capital. I thought to myself… ‘holy shit this woman is going to be such a badass.’
Unfortunately, all she did was whine, moan, complain, cry and simper over a man for the entire book.
Disappointing to say the least. I enjoyed the start of the book. I enjoyed the end but basically the entire middle was really boring and repetitive. There was also an unreasonable number of times she tripped and fell into this man’s arms, like literally tripped and fell
Anyway, aside from the eye rolling, mind numbing majority of the book, the rest was alright

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It has nice pacing, some good touching moments, and introduced the concept of silkpunk to me which was really cool! Was it perfect? No. But it was an enjoyable ride.

I went into Of Jade and Dragons with zero expectations outside of my love for Mulan and knowing this had those vibes, and I was not disappointed. This Silkpunk, Mulan-inspired fantasy weaves revenge and mystery together in a way that I enjoyed. The writing is beautifully done, very much in the YA lane, and our FMC is headstrong, intelligent, and resilient as she takes her brother’s place in the engineers guild, following in their father’s footsteps while secretly trying to uncover his killer.
Because it’s YA, themes like patriarchy, gender roles, and societal/cultural expectations of women are touched on but not fully explored, which left me wishing for a little more depth. The pacing also dragged in spots, though the unique world and setting really made up for it. The ending definitely was not what I expected, which makes me curious to see where book two goes.
This might not be a book for everyone, but overall I really enjoyed it and I’m glad I picked it up.

That ending… not what I was expecting, but still so satisfying. Now on to book 2.
The level of drama I need in my life tbh spill the tea girl 💅
That end... a punch to the gut and a breaking heart. Definitely need to continue and see how this ends overall.
