One of my favourite series ever. I love a grumpy x sunshine and a found family. This was my first Lucy Score, book; it made me fall in love with her writing and these characters. I immediately fell in love with both of the mcs, I loved the introduction to the world, it was entertaining and drama-filled from page 1. I not only fell in love with the mcs but also all the side characters, I could see the setup for future books but I also loved the depth other characters brought, which added depth to the mcs. It was a perfect slow burn that's full of tension, humour, and love. What was perfect was that you got the slow burn in the first half and the spice in the second half; the story had a crime side plot that was well-developed enough to make it a massive part of the story, linked to multiple side characters, and really dragged you in. I also loved the fact that they had real conversations and even though it was a happy ending, the conversations and self-healing to get there were healthy (in the end) and realistic. 6/5 stars!

This story was so well written. The characters feel very stereotypical and for a while I thought the ending of the book was going to be predictable but I was so wrong. The whole book I felt so frustrated for Naomi right up until the very end. The dialog feels like "buzzfeed quiz quirky millennial" humor.
I wish that Knox's character wasn't so toxic masculinity-y. It would've been nice to see him not focus so much on Naomi's sexuality and vague description of how she stuck in his mind and heard him describe a deeper interest in her character and personal attributes. Also, his treatment of her I think is very uncomfortable like calling her pet names outside of the relationship and how he takes a lot of control over her. I can see how it can be seen as sexy but to me it came off very controlling and unsettling.

I loved the book and the relationship development of Naomi and Knox and their relation towards Waylay.
I love the way they care about each other just as well as the whole town community does. The atmosphere felt comfortable and familiar as the characters treated each other lovingly with open arms.
In this book Naomi, a people pleaser, is forced out of her comfortzone where she’s shown her own worth. She learns to expand her need to care for everyone around her to herself.

„I want you to know your worth so no one in their right mind ever thinks they can treat you like that.“

One thing that started to annoy me later in the book was that there are a ton of scenes I anticipated seeing more about but then the scene was completely cut off and the next chapter started at a whole new point. That just threw me out of the story multiple times which made me sad because I enjoyed the book in its entirety a lot otherwise.

„At some point, you have got to stop worrying so much about what everyone else needs and start thinking about what you need.“

„Demanding to have your own needs met isn’t problematic—it’s heroic“

„Your feelings are real and valid. Don’t let anyone tell you you shouldn’t feel the way you feel“

The drama was definitely there. Was it kind of unnecessary rooted in miscommunication and fear? Yes. Did I absolutely love it? Also yes. So it’s safe to say you get the relationship drama you (in my opinion) often miss in other books.

„We both just wanted someone to love us enough to make up for all the times we hadn’t been enough“

„If there’s anything in this world you want, I’m gonna get it for you. No questions asked“

I’m very intrigued to read more about the characters in Kockemout and hope we’ll see Sloane and Lucian in a possible next book!

I did not like either the MCs personalities, but it was written very well that their personalities made 100% sense. This book is not a typical romance novel, because the main female character truly has a messy life. If you like a combination of a HEA and serious dramatic life events, this is a great read.
