This was a great read even though I hadn’t read the previous series. To be honest I didn’t know it existed until I finished this one as I randomly came across this one on Amazon while trying to find something else. It all worked out in the end though as I was not disappointed! I recommend giving it a go if you’re into YA Fantasy and looking for something to fill that what to read next void.

The only thing I didn’t enjoy about this book was the insta-love between the main character and his love interest. This was especially jarring just because I’ve seen how the author has dragged on (in a good way) the main relationship in the previous series. Chima has a skill at interweaving and creating deep connections and interactions between her characters so I was a bit disappointed by this immediate romance.

Also RIP to the character who died in the first couple chapters…that hurt.

*SCREAMS* First of all: WOW!!! What a great continuation to an already amazing world! It was sooo good to be back in the Seven Realms! We got to meet new characters and....say goodbye to some old favorites (still not over that one death) and explore a whole new magic dynamic! I was kinda in love with all the POVs that I read. With Ash being one of my favorites because he reminded me so much of Han and Raisa

all the nostalgia, all the feels. I thought I wasn't going to enjoy the multiple POVs, but it grew on me, and I felt invested in each of the characters. The original series is one of my all time favourites so I think it's time for a reread!

I didn’t really know much about Flamecaster before reading it, but it was a really good book.

The intrigue was really interesting and gripping. It is definitely on the more political side. But the world was really well done, in my opinion, and really interesting to read about.

The magic system is really interesting, even if a little confusing to me at times, and there are definitely some questions that need to be answered in the next books.

The characters were nice as well, even if I didn’t really love any of them, it was more of a neutral feeling towards them I guess. And I have to say that a certain relationship was too insta-lovey for me.

Overall, this first book was really gripping and installed a lot of elements for the rest of the series. I am really curious to see how it plays out.

3.5 Stars

maybe 3 and a half. I think I have to read the seven realms novels.

3.5

I don’t know if this is a 3.5 or a 4 stars read, but honestly my only real complaint is that this is yet another book with an insta love. Which I really dislike.

I really enjoyed everything else, and it felt really good to be back in this world. A+ characters, A+ world building, A+ plot.

Can’t wait to read the next one!
