Another classic surprise for me; move over Edith Wharton. This tongue-in-cheek story of overly-optimistic Candide, who always sees the cup half full no matter what happens, often caused an eye roll from me (but in an entertained way). Page after page is filled with one tragedy after another, but the writing style is so perfectly satiric that I was never morose. Without preaching, Voltaire, successfully shows that the richness of our life is ultimately due to the choices we make!

J'ai lu Candide il y a plusieurs années lorsque j'étais au Cégep. J'en garde toujours depuis ces années une opinion très favorable. C'est un roman qui, malgré le passage du temps, reste toujours d'actualité. Le sujet est beaucoup sur la nature humaine qui ne change jamais à travers les époques. C'est une roman que tous les étudiants devraient lire au moins une fois dans leur vie.

Do i give out 5 start ratings too easy? Maybe. But if i like it, i really like it. So glad i waited until this point in my life to read this. A hysterical political and philosophical satire.
