Pretty typical Cussler. Early in his career, a little edgier.

2.5 stars. Much better than Mediterranean Caper - Cussler's typical writing style comes out here. He hasn't quite hit his own, with some incongruous and dropped plot lines and cliche writing. A little too violent and sad as well. Still a pretty good Cussler read.

I listened to this on Audio tape. Usually a big fan of Dirk Pitt. But he isn't even in this book for what seems like more then half of it. At one point I wasn't even sure it was the same book. The ending was good.

It took awhile for me to find the copy of the one I read. I think I got it right.
I wish I still had my copies! But, alas, I have lost them through the many times I have moved. Through my own adventures, while worth it, caused me to lose those copies decades ago.
Al Giordino is still my favorite character in the Dirk Pitt series.

Was Cussler being prophetic with this book? Set in 1988. Shortly afterwards Mandela is released.
