Plath's use of imagery is second to none. Rich, textured, deeply sad poems that leap off the page and go for the throat.

DNF at page 35. I’m not a fan of nonsense poems. I get that these poems have a meaning (or, I think most of them do?), but I’m not going to dissect it and try to discern that meaning. These poems, taken at face-value, don’t make much sense. Some of the evoke emotion, but that emotion is always overshadowed by confusion. There was also a heavy racial slur casually dropped in during the namesake poem of this book… That’s not great. She wrote this late 1962 to early 1963, one might think she’d know better? Anyway, I can’t recommend this book in good conscious. If you like nonsense poetry you’ll probably love it, but otherwise just don’t bother.
