I'm pretty confident that this is the most I've ever cried reading a book. The story and writing are extremely good, the book is immersive, I was hooked and needed to know how things played out. This was a book club pick and so I know I wouldn't have read it on my own and appreciate having something outside my regular books - however I hate getting so emotional while reading so it just wasn't quite 5 stars for me.

This is the most extraordinary book I've read in a long time, maybe ever. I loved everything about it, though it broke my heart 72 times. I don't think words can explain; I've never read anything like this before.

It was moving so so so slow. It was dark, which is fine, but there’s a lot of darkness currently happening in the real world around me (LA fires, Trump presidency) and it was not the escapism I needed. The writing was fine, but going back to it felt like a work-out regime instead of something I was looking forward to.
