A masterpiece. It was easy to keep turning pages to find out what would happen next. And easy to get swept up on the saga of every character. I appreciated the focus on the long-term fallout that happens after trauma while not focusing on the person who caused the trauma.

The first 100 pages and the last 100 pages were good. The 400 in the middle were so slow and agonizingly boring. The parts that were relevant to the main plot could have been accomplished in 200 pages and this would have been a much more enjoyable book.

Slow and dragging. This story spans >25 years and is not just simple mystery or coming of age. It show the intertwined nature of small town lives and secrets over decades, with very little explicit detail just a lot of broad strokes about key points. Tries to be tragic and show facets of choices and consequences.
