Now let me tell you something… let me tell you something.. this was an absolutely SMASHING debut novel. Hats of to Macy because the way I devoured this, like ate up every second of it. This had so of my favourite tropes and every single one was done well, like every single one. Not a single critique for any of them.
I love a good thriller romance and this book was perfect, it balances between keeping the mystery and intensity going, to keeping you on the edge of your seat waiting for answers, to the soft sweet moments and even the intense emotional moments so well. It had it all. Plus the spice, the spice was so good! I had to sit legs crossed the entire time reading the smutty scenes if you want to know how good they were.
Sofia was a fantastic main FMC, she was strong, fiery and really was unapologetic about everything. She is who she is and no one can convince her otherwise. She was a complex character and I loved the way she was written, I really understand her and her motives through the whole story. Love love loveeeee her!
And Maddox omg, he is such a sweet and caring MMC but when he’s ready to be stern and take the reins he will. I loved him so much, every word that came out his mouth really made me melt, literally into a puddle on the ground. Especially every interaction this man has with Valentina he was truly made to be a girl dad. I loved how he also handled Sofia, he gave her room to speak her mind but also take care of her, communicate with her and I just love this man.
One element I want to highlight that I really loved most was the sisterly bonds between the main FMC Sofia and her little sister Valentina. As the older sister I related to this one so hard, the protectiveness and the feeling of being a parent to your sibling. Macy captured this perfectly and I loved it so much, I could relate to Sofia so much when it came to putting her whole being into protecting and loving her sister.
All the twists and turns with this book left me flabbergasted, I couldn’t piece a single thing together and the plot twists would take me out of orbit every time. I loved that we would get elements foreshadowed but not enough to guess what was going to happen. This is definitely a go into it blind read as this is such a fun book to just be trying to guess what’s going to happen next at every turn.
If you are wanting a book full of twists and turns that leaves you with all the feels then I recommend this to you! Pick it up, it is truly a fantastic read.
*Thank you so much to author for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

Red roses and black dahlias is an enthralling romance novel that had me hooked from start to finish. This book is not just a love story; it's a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with incredible suspense, unexpected plot twists, and the most heartwarming depiction of sisterly love.
The central characters, Sofia and her younger sister, form the heart and soul of this story. Sofia's unwavering determination to protect her sister is both inspiring and heart-wrenching. Their relationship is beautifully depicted, showcasing the sacrifices and devotion that bind them together.
Maddox, the detective working on Sofia's case, adds an intriguing layer to the narrative. As he delves deeper into the mystery surrounding Sofia, he becomes not just a protector but a crucial part of these two girls. The evolution of his relationship with the sisters is portrayed with sensitivity and depth.
Now, let's talk about those plot twists! Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the author threw curveballs that left me gasping in surprise. The twists are brilliantly executed, and I have to admit, I did not see them coming at all.
What sets this book apart is its ability to combine heart-pounding suspense with the warmth of family bonds and a romance that will make your heart race. The storytelling is engaging, the characters are relatable, and the plot is a delightful blend of mystery and love.
If you're looking for a romance novel that will keep you guessing, tug at your heartstrings, and leave you with a satisfied smile, "Red roses and black dahlias" is an absolute must-read. It's a testament to the strength of family and the power of love, wrapped in a package of suspense and surprise that you won't want to put down. Enjoy the journey, and be prepared to be pleasantly surprised!
I am soooo looking forward to the next book in this series!!!

I liked the relationship between Valentina and Sofia. the way Sofia is ready to defend her makes me cry. that was probably the only thing I liked about this book.
the relationship between Sofia and Maddox is very weird. I didn't even understand how and why they started. but the worst thing was that he admitted that he started to like her 3 weeks before she turned 18 and he was 24 at that time. i’m sorry but it’s disgusting. the fact that he is also a cop makes it much worse

What it the freaking fish have I just read?!???
I am speechless. This book is a work of art, plot twist after plots twist. I couldn’t have imagined such development. I really enjoyed how Maddox cares for both of the sisters right from the beginning. Little Valentina was wonderful and she kind play cupid, tbh hahaha.
And what strong character Sofia was. She is the embodiment of strong independent woman we all want to be.
10/10

Was this very well written ? no. Did it need to be edited ? Yes. Was it still addicting ? Yees
I read this because i saw that it had a bit of similarities to the mindfuck series. I would say that isn’t true except in the very last chapters we can see bit of similarities.
For the plot twist i did guess it pretty easily but it was still a good turn of events. I loved Maddox and Valentina’s relationship it was so cute, how he took her as his daughter, so sweet.

I would like to thank the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review of the book.
This book was an incredibly emotional ride and despite how heartbreaking it was, I honestly loved every bit of it.
Let me begin by saying that I love the fact that our FMC Sofia is a Latina and through her we get representation of Mexican culture and sufficient use of the Spanish language. As a Latina myself, I always get very happy to see people like me as heroines in books like this. It's all incredibly validating. Sofia as a character is so beautifully flawed and yet so strong. The amount of character development that she experiences as the story progresses is insane. She has learned to protect at all costs and to see her begin to allow for others to take care of her is so sweet. She and Valentina are so resilient and the horrors that they went through had me bawling my eyes out. The sister bond that these two share is everything a sibling relationship should be. I myself, am unbelievably close to my older sister and I love anytime a book depicts such a strong sister bond.
Valentina was as cute as a button and full of innocence, yet wise beyond her years as well. Her obsession with Princess and the Frog was too cute and the fact that Maddox would give her the moon if she asked for it, had me smiling to myself. That little girl has that man's heart and they were absolutely adorable together.
Maddox is a sweet man and was the support system those two girls needed to begin to heal from their horrors. This man's love language was definitely acts of love. There was nothing this man wasn't willing to do for either of these girls and we love to see it. The spice was actually good and did not overtake the plot at all. Maddox was also incredibly patient and understanding with Sofia during these intimate moments so that too was a plus in my book. You can tell that this man really liked her as a person before anything else. Sofia is intelligent, determined, outspoken, strong, selfless, and in general full of love. I feel like Sofia and Maddox work well together and are able to collectively create a household that is healthy for little Valentina.
The mystery aspect of the story was done very well and it very much had me on the edge of my seat. The twist literally had me gasping and taking a moment to stop and reflect. I absolutely love it when books have moments like that as a reader. I was trying to solve the case right along with Maddox and each new discovery in the case took me by surprise. The ending of this book was great and I felt like we got sufficient closure, but the author was still able to masterfully leave lingering questions for the sequel.
After finishing, I have come to the conclusion that this book will now hold a special place in my heart. It will continue to remind me to truly value and protect the relationships that bring me joy in my own life. Especially the one that I have with my own sister because I can say with confidence that we would do anything for each other.
This book has good romance, but it was most definitely not the focal point for me and it thus took back seat to the story of these two sisters. I highly recommend this to those looking for an empowering and emotional story of survival and found families. This was a strong debut by the author and I cannot wait to see what she writes next.

Idek what to say about this book other than it was beautiful and made me feel absolutely happy about the sister relationship I have with my own. Just like Sofia I would do anything to protect mines. Everything she did was very much justified and I was behind her 100%.
Her and Maddox’s relationship was really cute but I love Valentina’s and his relationship more, the way he would do anything for that little girl in the beginning without even knowing her that well made my heart flutter.
Some of my fave quotes without spoiling
“I had a feeling Valentina would always be my first child. We may not be linked by blood, but Sofia, Valentina, and I, we were becoming a family”
“I didn’t know how or when but this little girl had wormed her way into my heart and decided it was her home now”
“La muerte no existe, la gente sólo muere cuando la olvidan
Death doesn't exist, people only die when we forget them’
Sobbing ugh I can’t wait till the next book comes out.
