A little corny but sometimes there are things you just need to hear again from someone different and that's what I needed so I was fine with it. And even though a lot of the dialogue was unrealistic I appreciated how he made it a story between a mentor and apprentice instead of just telling the audience what to do. It definitely made it more palatable. And there was actually some stuff in here I'm going to try.
The best thing about Chop Wood Carry Water How to Fall in Love with the Process of Becoming Great is that it combines Eastern ideas with Western thoughts. However, as many Western writers tend to do when presenting Eastern ideas, Joshua Medcalf misguides . the reader by limiting the focus to job, career, and money making. I did manage to learn a lot from this short book. I have adopted some of the ideas and they have helped me to improve my life in a short period of time. I recommended this book with the caveat to ignore the overly money-focused aspects. Usually, I prefer for the writer to read their own words. This is the rare case where the Audible production and the overall performance were not the best way to showcase this work.

Some great moments some not so much. It was very much 'your circumstances have no effect, practice is the only thing that matters'. A lot has changed in the last 10 years so I can't fault the author but using Dr. Seuss and Ben Carson as success stories was jarring, and using the phrase trail of tears in a totally different context isn't great. But that's a few sentences of a whole book.
There were positive elements, falling in love with the process, working hard with patience, mastering the basics, naming 15 things that went well after a challenging practice, being hard set on making sure people get your name correct bc it's your identity.

My dad made me read it, it was self-righteous, poorly edited, repetitive, and incredibly boring throughout the 100 and something pages. It took my twenty minutes to read that i’ll never get back, do not recommend.
