I'm not quite sure what to think about this book. I did enjoy and I liked Mary's character and her drive. However all the other characters fell a little flat for me and I didn't really feel anything when the two major deaths happened. I liked how the book was very philosophical and focused a lot on Mary and her dreams. However I would have liked it a bit more if we got to look more at the Sisters and what they lied about as all we were really told was that they lied but we were never really told what the truth was. This to me was quite frustrating. Not a lot happens in this book plot wise but I still found it engaging but if you're looking for fast-paced zombie book then this isn't the one for you. I also liked how the zombies were handled and would definitely like some more world building but hopefully that will come in future books. Overall, I liked this book but it's definitely not for everyone.

Generally I leave the zombie apocalypse stories to my brother, but I was interested in this one, well, because of the title, I'll be honest.

It was a good premise, and I think the author writes well, but it just didn't hit with me. When it comes to books, it's hard to disappoint me, but this one did. The characters seemed to have nothing going for them, I couldn't get a feel for anyone. Sometimes traits would be pointed out as if to remind you who was who, but I couldn't see it for myself.

And the romance... generally I find romance novels to be boring, only because I have no interest in romance, however a little love on the side is always a nice addition to a story. The whole love part of this book seemed too forced to me as well. I kept hearing about it, but I wasn't seeing it. Nothing really flowed with this book, at least not for me. I wanted to love this book, but I had trouble just liking it.

DID NOT FINISH

Got to the end. Meh. Won't read the next one. Kind of regret spending time on this one. No attachment to any of the characters.

Got to chapter 10 and finally had to call it quits. For how deeply the main character (Marie?? I think?) says she’s in love with Travis, you’d think there’d actually be noticeable chemistry among them. There are no likable characters at all, mainly because they have no personality. I wanted to stick around for the zombie storyline because it does seem intriguing, but the lack of any other dimension in the story was too much to ignore.

Edit: it’s Mary. Her name is Mary. That’s how forgettable she is, I couldn’t even remember her actual name.

Slightly vague and more than slightly depressing.
But can I just say I am in love with the title? Both creepy and lyrical...like the novel itself.
