This book is the epitome of horror. It has those classic horrific vibes that make it so easy to sink right into because you're not running away and hiding from it being too scary. If you're a fan of zombies, a post apocalyptic world, and corrupted leaders; this is for you!

This was a reread, and I still absolutely love this book. It's YA without being silly, it has darkness and a fast paced story that reflects the adventurous searching of a youthful spirit, and makes me remember what it was like to be young and seeking a different world than the small one you grew up in. And of course I love a good zombie book, and this one satisfies.

I’ve said this book was my favorite of all time since I read it a DECADE ago. Is it still my favorite? Literally no. While I still like the book, I blacked out the part where the main character is insufferable.

Never having read a zombie book before, I can't really compare it to another, but I can compare it to the other fantasy/dystopia books and this one is very good. It keeps you on your toes and enthralled in the story until the last page.

I have to be honest. I started hating everyone in the middle of the book. I hated Travis for not showing up to claim Mary, did he not love her?!? Obviously he didn't love Cassandra. I also hated Cass for not leaving Travis and going with Harry whom she loved. Then I hated Harry for not claiming Cass. I definetly hated Sister Tabitha, I mean, She was all types of cruel. I hate Mary for giving up everything just to see the sea. She even gave up the one man she truly loved! She also got her brother killed. ((Well I hope she didn't... but what are the chances?)) Then she left her bestfriends behind to get to the ocean. I did hate her, but I loved her determination which is why I love this book. I tore out my hair a million times reading this. Yes, I shall read the next one. I can't help it. hahha.

Well that was a quick read.

I was prepared for it to be creepy, but it didn't really seem that bad at first. About 3/4 of the way in it got a little disturbing (zombie babies? graphically chopping peoples heads off?) but it wasn't as scary as I had heard it would be. Much more romance/conflicted feelings than scary.

On that note though; Wtf is up with all the female main characters of YA novels being so sought after by all the male characters? It gets old... For once I would like to see a FMC that doesn't have to choose between two (that may or may not be related/friends/enemies/etc.) guys that both pine for her. Can't we just have a badass chick that gets shit done?

Anyways, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to wiki the series and find out how it ends... Not sure I'm invested enough to read the other two.

Such an interesting premise - the world's poulation has fallen victim to a virus that leaves the majority "Unconsecrated" - or, as we commonly know it, zombies. Our heroine Mary lives in a small village in the middle of The Forest of Hands and Teeth, surrounded by intricate fences to keep the Unconsecrated out. The village is run by the highly powerful (and highly suspicious)Sisterhood, a religious matriarchal society. But Mary longs to be free... sounds like the start of a great M. Night Shyamalan movie, right?

However, the sketchy character development and the sophomoric writing style makes the book fall flat. I mean, come on, can you think of a verb other than "scurry"??? "Mary scurried to the door, Mary scurried across the field, Mary scurried through the passage..." I felt like the main character was a mouse, not a girl. And her overwhelming feelings for Travis, the main love interest, came so quickly, I kept thinking why??? You don't even know this guy! And he doesn't seem all that great to begin with!

In the hands of a better author, The Forest of Hands and Teeth (and who can beat a title like that???) would have been a winner. But as it stands - go rent Signs.
