A fantastic complete collection of Hiaku by the Master.

One of those books that you never finish reading, yes I have read it cover to cover but it is one that you have to read again and again. One to dip in and out of time and again, gaining new meanings and favourites with each read.

Gorgeously put together, I think this might be my favourite anthology of poetry.

Much of the wit and finesse of Basho's poems are lost in translation. Additionally, it wasn't the collection "Zen" I was hoping for (I read Ryokan's Zen poems just before this, so that definitely colored my expectations).
