“Maybe something is changing. Maybe not doing something can be as powerful as doing it. Maybe in life all that really matters are the choices i make and who i choose to make them for.” Dani
Dani’s and Camila’s stories are heavy and will be pretty hard for some people to finish this book. Which is understandable because you’re important. Your mental health comes first. Both characters dealt with family issues and had some mental struggles. Which resulted in them doing self harm in their own way to deal with the pain.
Dani was written as someone full of themselves and seemingly untouchable. Which came from having money and her parent’s status. Of course i wish she didn’t want to self medicate to numb. However, people need to look at how her parents, especially her mom, treated Dani. Parents like this seem to care about the outside world and looking good to them for they are political stance. Thinking a price can fix any issue. When in fact the problem is deeper than surface level. The mom needed to deal with her own ish. It’s like she just wanted to send Dani away to once again look good from the political point.
Camila was written as this young talent that can dance and could be on her way to an amazing career. However, she feels empty inside and harms herself. To me it feels like she wants to know that she can feel something. What her parents did with that money was messed up. Wish they would have talked to her.
They pushed and pulled with the treatment. Showing the struggles of someone trying to heal. In turn helping us to know what to look out for. Glad they had each other. The ending was bitter sweet.
Shout out to Dani’s aunt.

This is such a good book. I think i learned a lot from reading about the journeys of both Camila and Dani, and I love how realistic their healing is. I almost gave this 4.5 stars because it wasn’t poetic or full of crazy plot twists like some 5⭐️ reads I’ve had, but two things can be very different and equally beautiful. Discovering that Yolanda was K from the letters really struck a chord in me as a testament to how much we can grow and overcome. This book had some amazing full circle moments, and also some heartbreaking open endedness. I really really recommend this, especially to anyone who’s struggled with their own mental health battles. This is beautifully written and devastatingly real. ❤️ (also please check trigger warnings if you’re sensitive with certain mental health topics)

Come for the mystery blurb but stay for the girls
Don’t go into this betting on solving a big mystery with clues and intrigue. This is a book of small, but meaningful, things.
The changing of a mind, the building of a friendship.

Loved this book. It was so easy to read and kept me engaged. There were a few almost cringy parts with the therapy sessions but overall the story was inspiring. The language used to describe the feelings of both characters was intense and real.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC in exchange for review.
A beautiful story of friendship found in an unlikely place. Dani and Camila are roommates at Peach Tree Hills for rehab. One for drugs and alcohol. One for cutting. Both feel their parents have priorities other than their children. Both don't wan't to be there.
Through time, therapy, and mistakes, the pair find healing in different ways. But healing is different for everyone. Kuehn writes the story of 2 characters finding what they need.
Recommend for grades 8 and up.

Some books that feature mental illness seem misinformed but this one doesn’t. The author did such a great job navigating Dani’s and Camila’s situations. I loved that they were both still working to be better by the end and not miraculously healed because that’s unrealistic.
