REALLY liked this one! So different from her other novels, I was hooked from the get go!

I'm just horribly bored. This is definitely more slow-paced than I expected.

When Joanne Harris is describing a world of the past, a sentimental world of childhood, villages that no longer exist, the faintly supernatural and mysterious, then she succeeds and spins stories that have a real depth of feeling and emotion.
When Joanne Harris starts to move her stories into the present, an age of technology and computer and phones she fails.
This story is hollow, the world of internet forums and communities is inauthentic. Sadly it is clear that she does not understand how online works, or the way it feels.
The story itself has some good elements, blurring between fact and fiction, an interesting central story (that of Emily White), but told in a way that does not compel me to read. It is the great irony that the books you like the least are the ones you spend the most time reading, and that was the case here.

Yes, it actually took me 2 1/2 years to read this book. It was the book I kept at work for 'bathroom' breaks (apparently I don't take that many at work).
I thought the plot was okay. I guess I was a little disappointed because I'd found her other book, Gentlemen and Players, to be really good. Just happy to finally be able to take this off my 'currently reading' list.

I enjoyed this. I got a little confused with the changing of names, but overall enjoyable.
