I'm sorry to say that Bridger was really annoying in this book.
The first book was good and everything that happened was understandable. You have a lonely kid dealing with his sexuality, feelings of anxiety and inadequacy, teenage hormones who ends up involved in a magical world. If he acts angsty or makes mistakes, it wasn't his fault - he's a teenager and stuff gets overwhelming.
Unfortunately the sequel takes the "walking disaster" or "hot mess" and dials it up x3. Bridger is an idiot in this book. he makes the same mistakes literally over and over. He's a doormat; all the stuff with his dad? At least he stood up for himself at the end (but the resolution with his dad wasn't that satisfying). He takes advantage of Pavel's kindness. His personality is so ridiculous that it I was having so much trouble finishing the book. There were multiple cringe moments. The Pavel and Summer "crush" thing was not great. The dialogue, emotions, and story feels repetitive. Then at the very end, you get maybe 2 paragraphs of self reflection and enlightenment about how he's changed.  I wouldn't pay money for this sequel.

Nothing special. Predictable, very simple writing, but light,  comfortable, comforting, and there's magic.
