This is the worst of the Strike books, it’s too long and I did not find the central crime interesting or compelling - the long passages of internet forum/chat stuff was tedious and the reveal at the end wasn’t memorable. I only liked this for the furthering of Strike and Robin’s relationship, which is interesting and compelling. I’m pleased she’s chucked that odious Matthew and free to pursue other people. But the will they won’t they between Strike and Robin will be played out over the last three novels so I’m sure we won’t get a satisfying conclusion for their relationship for at least a couple more 1000 page books. I’m currently reading The Running Grave which is far better, more interesting subject matter (who doesn’t love a cult?) and I don’t mind the length of that one.
