Absolutely amazing speculative fiction. Le Guin really sees the world in such a beautiful and inspiring way.

A deliberately paced, thoughtfully written political discourse on what a realistic anarchy might look like. There’s heavy conjecture on made up theories in high level theoretical physics that sometimes felt excessive while reading, but in retrospect I think it wonderfully enhanced Shevek’s character narrative and served up some fun metaphors for his and the Odonian political philosophies. There’s a lot of set up in the first half of the book, but patience is rewarded as the second half flies by. I don’t reread books but I think this is one I’ll have to revisit, it feels like it was meant to be read multiple times.
